Tips on Using WhatsApp for PC
There are now two different versions of desktop WhatsApp. The first version is the web version. It allows you to access WhatsApp on a PC through web browser apps like Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or others. Another version is the desktop WhatsApp app.
This version is a native WhatsApp app you can find on the App Store for Mac and Microsoft Store for Windows. Before using any of the desktop WhatsApp apps, there are some core tips everyone should learn.
1. Activating dark mode
Just like WhatsApp for phones, the one for PCs and laptops also comes with dark and light modes. Users can activate the theme so that they are going to feel more comfortable while navigating the app. To activate dark mode, click the three dots and open Settings on your Web WhatsApp.
Then click Theme where you can find three different options: Light, Dark, and System Default. Activate the dark mode or dark theme by clicking Dark then hit the OK button. Now, the theme of your WhatsApp on the desktop will be in dark mode.
2. Find emoticons much more easily
What makes PC Web WhatsApp much more interesting is the emoticon. You can find it and send it very easily. Some people only know how to insert the emoticon by accessing the emoji or emoticon button. But there’s actually an easier way to input the emoticon.
For example, when you are going to send a hug emoticon, simply type :hug and some suggestions are going to appear. Click on one of them to send the emoticon. Some other formulas you may want to try are :smile, :sob, :cry, :shy, :cat, and others.
3. Change background chat
Just like the phone version of the WhatsApp app, WhatsApp for PC also offers an option to change the background of your chat. To do this, open the three-dot icon and then click Settings. On the list, click Chat Wallpaper then you’ll find a lot of background colors for your WhatsApp chat.
Tick Add WhatsApp Doodles if you want some pattern on the background chat of your web WhatsApp or desktop WhatsApp. The colors for the background chat will be different in Light mode and Dark mode. There’s no option to use your own picture for your WhatsApp’s background chat.
4. File sharing across devices
Along with the latest WhatsApp version for smartphones, your desktop WhatsApp is going to be a reliable tool for sharing documents, videos, images, or other materials. To send data across the phone and computer, you need to follow these steps:
Run WhatsApp for PC then type You in the search bar.
Click You then a window chat with yourself will appear on your desktop WhatsApp.
Drag and drop your files to this window chat and send them.
Now, open the WhatsApp mobile app on your smartphone.
Look for the ‘You’ window chat and all your files can be found there.
You can also send files from the mobile WhatsApp app by sending the files to You. Then, you will be able to access the files on your computer through the Business WhatsApp app for PC.
5. Format messages for WhatsApp chat
To make bold, italic, or strikethrough format on the WhatsApp mobile app, users need to select the messages and then access the additional menu. Then they can find the options to make the text bold, italic, or other.
In desktop WhatsApp apps or web WhatsApp, it is easier to format your WhatsApp chat. Use * on both sides of the text to bold it. Use _ on both sides of the text to make it italic. Use ~ on both sides of the text to add strikethrough.
